There are many towers dotting the coastline throughout the province such as ‘The Marina di Torre Grande’ at Cabras, Cuglieri, San Vero Milis and Terralba, built in order to defend them from Saracen raids.
Torre Grande is the biggest coastal tower of Sardinia. It is situed 5-6 kilometers far from Oristano, at Marina of Torre Grande. Of cylindric shape, it has a diameter of more than 20 ms and it was built on two levels.
The Torre di San Cristoforo ( Saint Cristopher Tower), also known as Torre di Mariano, can be admired in Oristano’s Piazza Roma. This tower was built in the year 1290. It is 19 meters tall, three storeys high and entirely built in sandstone. The last floor features a crenellated tower and a bronze bell dating back to the year 1430.
The tower of portixedda is made of two overlapping cylindrical bodies, moine by a scope trunk of a cone.
